The Fragrance Development Process

The Fragrance Development Process training will give the student a broad insight into the history of fragrance evolution from early man to modern day, as well as an in-depth understanding fragrance development process and exposure to the key olfactive families. While offering a global perspective, the seminar with have a specific focus on the olfactive trends of the Middle Eastern fragrance market. Additional topics will center upon key insights into modern trends in both consumer and olfactive areas, an overview of top selling fragrances, elements of success in the fragrance market, master branding and a perspective on the global fragrance development process.

The student will engage in an olfactive smelling session of the natural and synthetic raw ingredients used in the perfumer's palette. Olfactive training sessions offer the student the opportunity to develop his or her "nose" and a basic understanding of how fragrances are constructed. Students will be exposed to the fragrance briefing process with professional perfumers and the important stages of development in fragrance creation and the decision making process. The last day of the seminar will be dedicated to a visit to an actual perfumer's lab and the opportunity to create one's own fragrance in the lab.

The Marketing and Selling of Fragrances

This training session will be dedicated to the marketing and selling of fragrances, a detailed review of the fragrance brand development process: from initial concept through all the necessary stages of development to achieve a successful launch to the market. The instructor will draw upon professional experience through real life brand case studies and will encourage the students to develop their abilities in critical thinking and analysis of the subject matter.

The key elements to success for a fragrance brand will be explored. This segment of training will involve a visit to the marketplace in Dubai where we will review fragrance brands, packaging, fragrance juice and overall success factors.

Student Learning Outcomes

  7. Visit the local retail stores in Dubai and review the key success factors that contribute to multi-million dollar global fragrance brands.
